It Takes Two

15 Apr

There have been many classic duos  who have stood the test of time.

First there was Batman and Robin:

HOLY SMOKES, BATMAN!   NO NEED TO CALL THE BULLPEN!

Then came The Lone Ranger and Tonto:

I’M SORRY KEMO SABE BUT NOT EVEN YOUR TRUSTY STEED SILVER CAN OUTRUN WHITE MAN’S  FASTBALL.

And who could ever forget Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?

WE’RE DEFINITELY BETTER LOOKING SO WHY DOES LEE GET ALL THE CHEERS?

There’s the legendary musical duo of Simon and Garfunkel:

WHY DO THESE PHILLY CROWDS ALWAYS MAKE US SING TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME?

And that priceless pair in the muppet world, the lovable Bert and Ernie:

HEY BURT,  DO YOU THINK ROY HALLADAY HAS A LUCKY RUBBER DUCKIE IN HIS LOCKER?

And my duo of choice in the cartoon world?  None other than that flying squirrel and his slightly dim-witted best friend, Rocky and Bullwinkle:

HEY BULLWINKLE, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE PHILLIES  FOUR ACES? I DON’T KNOW ROCK, DID THEY LOSE THE REST OF THE DECK?

But the duo of the moment aren’t actors or muppets or cartoon characters.  They are real; they are here; and they are the best thing to happen to Phillies baseball since, well since the Hot Pants Girls roamed the aisles at the Vet.

HEY GIRLS WE MISSED ALL THE FUN. AT LEAST WE GOT GOOD TIPS!

Yes (with apologies to Cole, the other Roy, and ‘big’ Joe) of course I’m referring to  the spectacular duo of Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee.

Watching Hallday work is like watching a surgeon as he cuts up the competition pitch by pitch.  No motion is wasted since he’s always thinking several pitches ahead until he moves in for the kill with his deadly cutter or curve or fastball.

COME ON CHOOCH. THIS YEAR I’LL GET YOU A PORSCHE

And then there’s the second half of this pitching perfection, Clifton Phifer Lee.  Does anyone not love the way he runs off the mound after he gets the third out ?  Or the way he casauly catches a pop-up or makes a play behind his back?

KNOW WHY THIS MAN IS SMILING? HE’LL NEVER HAVE TO BUY A MEAL IN THIS TOWN AGAIN!

So after two consecutive complete game victories (which hasn’t happened since 1999 by the way,) including Lee’s 3 hit, 12 strikeout gem last night, we salute two of our four aces.  For those of you who may fret over fairness, don’t worry, I’m sure the others will earn their due.

But for today, Cliff and Roy are my favorit pair.

Well, except for maybe these guys!
