Baseball Is Back!

You can shout it from the East Coast to the West and in between.

Though the trees are still too bare and the grass is not yet green.

But that doesn’t  really mater where the palm trees sway.

Because our boys of summer have gone down south to play.

They’ll start out slow with stretches and then add some jumping jacks;

And they’ll end most of those work-outs in whirlpools and with ice packs.

But the fans can still cheer, they can holler and hoot,

As we watch our Phillies play in the league they call Grapefruit.

No the games do not yet count but there is oh so much to see:

Do our aces arms look sharp now that we’re down to only three?

Will Jimmy still bat lead-off; Is Polly healthy enough to  play?

And is it true that Ryan Howard will be back in early May?

Can’t wait to see Jim Thome hit one  over the fence.

And we’ll have our first full year to enjoy Hunter Pence.

We’ll get a look at Papelbon,  the pen’s biggest new recruit.

But can he shut the door after Bastardo and Stutes?

Now I will miss my Rau-u-u-l, and no, Hal, I’m not lyin,’

But at least we still have Shane, our Flyin’ Hawaiian.

And John Mayberry’s out to prove that last year was no fad,

As he follows in the footsteps of  former slugger and now proud Dad.

Last season’s mourning period is  over,

Time to put away the black. *

You can pull out those red jerseys

because baby, the Phillies Are Back!

*OK, full disclosure.  Most of you know I’m not really putting away all the black but I am breaking out the Phillies jerseys!!

poem is too cute. Did I tell you I’m going to Clearwater……but, I will be lying on the beach while my s.i.l. takes my 90 yr. old f.i.l. to the Phillies games.

That’s great. Tell him I hope he has a blast. In fact, tell me if anything interesting or funny happens. I can always use new material!
