Uh-Oh! Now, Who’s On Second?

20 Mar

OK, we’ve all heard the news by now that Chase Utley has left the Phillies Spring Training camp to have his knees examined by a doctor who specializes in cases like his.  We’ve all heard the somewhat vague updates on his status and the not so vague statement by Ruben Amaro today that it is “doubtful for him [Chase] to be prepared to play second base for us opening day.”

Everything else is sheer speculation and I don’t know about you but I’ve heard more than enough dire predictions coming from fans and sports talk radio hosts alike.  It’s certainly hard to imagine a happy ending to Chase’s story as I sit here tonight but until we have at least a little more information I won’t add to the clutter.

I thought instead, a change of mood was in order.  Even when times are tough, especially when times are tough, I’m sure the ”Doc” would agree that laughter is the best medicine.  So with the 2012 season starting to look quite different from the one we were expecting, it seemed our favorite baseball song needed a bit of an overhaul as well.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Yes, there will be a ball game

But who will be on the field?

Ryan is out with his torn Achilles

Now there’s no Chase, what’s up with those damn knees

But we won’t give up on our Phillies

Though no line-up will be the same

‘Cause with Doc, Cole and Cliff on the mound we’re still in the game.

    Susan,

I guess we get to see how all of the utility players we picked up in off season work out, looks like we will be needing them for a while………

The best laid plans, right? Who knew how much we’d be missing Valdez!
