That Is Not A Good Sign…

30 Apr

When the woman who shows you to your seats says she can’t wait for Cliff Lee to come back….. that is not a good sign.

When the starting line-up features 6 players you didn’t even expect to make the team….. that is not a good sign.

When the best thing you can say is that Kyle Kendrick is the only pitcher this week to not allow a first inning run….. that is not a good sign.

When the biggest ovation of the day by far is for Charlie Manuel coming out of the dugout to argue a call at the plate….. that is not a good sign.

When almost half of the crowd leaves at 2:30 to get home in time for the opening face-off of the Flyers game ….. that is not a good sign.

When you think you should stay until the end of the game to avoid the traffic jam….. that is not a good sign.

When after 8 innings you realize that you saw the home team’s entire offense after the FIRST batter hit a bloop single….. that is really not a good sign.

When I looked up as I was writing this to see the Cubs Joe Mather hitting a home run….. that is not a good sign.

When the loss you just painfully witnessed guarantees that the Phillies will have their first losing record in April since 2007….. that is not a good sign.

But April is mercifully almost over. Tomorrow a new month will dawn.  A new chance, a fresh start.  After all isn’t May the month that brings the flowers after all those April showers?  Yeah, maybe in May, everything will be coming up roses.

Now THAT would be a good sign.

Hope springs eternal, but hope does not translate into wins. If the team continues to flounder and they feel they cannot sign Hamels, they better explore trading him for somebody that does not need the “wisdom” of hitting “guru” Charlie Manuel.

I hear you. And tonight they were hitting and Doc gave up a six run lead. So who knows in this crazy game?

    Susan,

A new month, and maybe it will do us good!! One month does not a baseball season make (hopefully I don’t eat my words).

You are blogging more, and that IS a good sign 🙂

Susan, sounds like you’ve been talking to Holly! We are going to two games in DC this weekend, and look forward to two wins!

They better start winning or that sellout streak will be over soon. People are definitely going to be jumping off the bandwagon. The only good that can come of this is that I’ll be able to pick up a cheap ticket when I visit this summer.

I was hoping that you would at least get some of the Phanatics b-day cake. That might have made the game(hah) a little easier to endure!
