A Win Is a Win Is a Win

Piece of cake, right?  Never a doubt.  A decisive walk-off win for the Fightins’.

OK, none of the above.

But a win is a win is a win.

For only the second time in 70 games, the Phillies got to celebrate a walk-off win.  For only the first time since May 14th and 15th, the Phillies had back-to-back wins at home.  And for the first time since May 13-15, the Phillies will win a home series.  Hard to believe after last year’s series-winning juggernaut.

But a win is a win is a win.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like to see closer Jonathan Papelbon come in to a tie game?  He gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth in a scenario that is all too familiar.  Papelbon has allowed seven runs in 10 1/3 innings when pitching in non-save situations. On the other hand he is perfect in save opportunities and has yet to allow a run in the 17 1/3 innings he’s pitched with a save on the line.  Hey, here’s a thought.  Maybe closers are closers for a reason.  They close.

But a win is a win is a win.

It took a two-out clutch double from Hunter Pence, who is batting .203 with runners in scoring position. It took Shane Victorino, possibly having the quietest season of his career, beating out a ground ball that looked like a sure out.  And it took the foot of a three-time Gold Glove winning first baseman that miraculously, (for the home team,) just couldn’t find the bag to win this one.

But in a season where it seems this Phillies team has found countless heartbreaking ways to lose games, it was more than a little heartening to finally find a way to win one.  So it may not have been pretty,

But a win is a win is a win.

We will take wins in any manner that they come. Even if it takes two bad throws to first by the shortstop to win em!!!!
