A Haiku for Thome

24 Jun

My time is short but I couldn’t let today’s game pass without at least a brief post.  So here comes the first haiku of the season:

He wears his socks high

Off his bat the balls do fly,

Thome got the pie.

With tonight’s walk-off win, the Phils moved into sole possession of fourth place in the National League East for the first time since May 4.  Who knew we’d be celebrating a move into fourth place, but this year we’ll take what we can get.  Two more tomorrow!

I think a Jim Thome walk off homer is the best way to win! So happy that Jim is now tied with Sammy Sosa with 609 home runs and that Charlie celebrated 900 wins tonight. I think the credit for this game really belongs to Juan Pierre who was on his game this evening and dominated offensively. Also, we saw some good pitching from Valdez and Qualls. Ironically, Papelbon gets the win.

Thanks for all the good info, Syd! And I heard a certain walk-off hero threw you a ball. You may have to attend BP more often.

Nice haiku, and I would add: “and we say, my, my!”
