One More Makes Four

18 Jul

Don’t look now but your Philadelphia Phillies are riding a four game win streak.  To celebrate this rare feat here are “Four Phillies Facts” you can use to impress your friends:

Last night was only the first time all season that the Phillies have won a game when trailing after seven innings, improving to 1-38.

The victory also gives the Phillies their first four-game winning streak since May 23 through 26 and ensures their second straight series win.  Although last year’s team was a series-winning machine, this season the Phils haven’t won back-to-back series since the end of May when they did it against the Cardinals and the Mets.

Hunter Pence, who had a rough first half hitting with runners on base, has hit 409 (9-for-22) with runners in scoring position since June 24.

The “Doc” difference.  The Phillies went 15-27 without Halladay, and the starting rotation was 12-19 with a 4.72 ERA. They are 26-24 with Halladay, and the rotation is 19-16 with a 3.33 ERA.

Don’t forget today’s game is at 3:10.  On paper it looks like a pitcher’s duel with Cliff Lee going against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, the 2011 National League Cy Young Award winner.

But I’ll leave you with this bonus fact:

Kershaw, an NL All Star for the second year in a row, has not fared well against the Phillies in his career, posting an 0-4 record with a 4.95 ERA in seven regular-season starts.

Let’s hope I have to find five new facts for tomorrow!
