Old King Cole

19 Aug

As fans search for reasons to watch the Phillies down the stretch, pitcher Cole Hamels continues to be one of them.  He got his 14th win last night bringing his record to 14-6 with a 2.94 ERA. With just two more wins Hamels will break his career high in wins, 15 set in 2007.  So today we honor Cole with a special version of the classic poem, Old King Cole.

Young Kid Cole is a man on a roll

Knows his goal while he’s on the mound;

He can hit his spots, in complete control

As the strike zone he does pound.

 ◊          ◊          ◊

In a season of despair, at least Cole’s been there

He’s beyond compare when he’s on;

With not much to cheer,  we’re thankful Cole is here

Just don’t make him face Ryan Braun.

Today’s post is dedicated with love to the memory of Betty Norkin.
