Philadelphia Phillies Are A “Hit” In Spring Training

4 Mar

Although the Phillies 4-5 Spring Training record may not be so hot, the good news is that their hitting is.  Especially the bats of Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown.  After hitting a another home run yesterday, a moon shot, Howard is batting .417 (10 for 24) with three homers, three doubles and 10 RBIs in nine exhibition games so far this Spring.  You could call that sizzling.

Yes, it’s only Spring Training and yes, that doesn’t mean it will translate into regular season success but after missing all of spring training and the first half of the season last year recovering from his torn left Achilles tendon, seeing Ryan Howard once again looking like the Phillies Big Piece is a sight for sore eyes.

And Domonic Brown continues to set his sights on a starting position in the Phils opening day line-up as his hot bat continues to produce.  He also hit his third spring training homer yesterday and is now batting .350 (7 for 20) in nine games.

Chase Utley, Ben Revere and Carlos Ruiz are also hitting hot bats this Spring.

What?  You have to see it to believe it you say?  Well, how about if I see it for you.  That’s right.  Thanks to an amazing gift from my partner in baseball and life, (or should I say life and baseball?) we are heading off to Spring Training later this week and will see the Phillies play the Rays on March 9th, my birthday!!  How cool is that?

So I will bring you some of the sights and sounds from Clearwater and I’ll give you a first hand scouting report on the Phillies suddenly resurgent offense.

Oh yeah, I’ll also have a hot dog or two for you!

Yeah, Yeah. It’s lways something, right? But I won’t worry about it on my birthday. As Scarlet O’Hara said: “I’ll think about it tomorrow.”
