Who IS This Team?

13 Apr

Just when you think you have a handle on this team they play a game like last night’s  and you find yourself wondering:

Who IS this team???

Just when we thought the only pitcher who could get through the sixth inning was Cliff Lee, another guy looked pretty good on the mound.  No, not Cole Hamels and not Roy Halladay either.  John Lannan went six full innings last night giving up just three hits and one run.

Who IS  this team???

But what about innings six and seven?  The Phillies middle relief so far this season has been a relief only to opposing hitters.  But last night Antonio Bastardo and Phillippe Aumont didn’t give up a single hit in their outings.

Who IS this team?

One thing we haven’t had to worry about  however, has been the offense. The Phils have been hitting well and scoring a lot of  runs lately  so their hot lineup should hit the cover off the ball against a struggling Miami Marlins team, right?  Wrong again.  How about one run in nine  innings and not a single baserunner after the sixth.

Who IS this team?

But one thing that has been consistent throughout this young season is the play of Chase “You are the man.” Utley.  And he was the man again last night blasting a triple in the tenth inning to drive in one run and then score himself on Michael Young’s infield single.

Who Is this guy?

Chase Utley is like a new man or at least a man with new knees.  He’s playing like the Chase Utley of 2008 and 2009.  Looking like the guy many of us thought we’d never see again on a baseball field.

So the Phillies have now won three in a row.  Not yet cause for celebration but this “other team” is a heck of a lot more fun to watch than the one that started the season 2-5.

Whoever this team is!

I’ve had the same thought. Maybe there’s a picture in the attic?
