KK Does It Again

3 May

Who you gonna call???

No, don’t worry.  I’m not going to do that again.  But lucky for us, Kyle Kendrick sure did.

After getting crushed by the Cleveland Indians for two straight games, the Phillies really needed a win and although it may not have been KK’s best effort, he got the job done….again.

In a season where inconsistency and underperformance has been the rule, Kyle Kendrick has been the surprising exception.  He battled for seven innings last night giving up only two runs as the Phillies got a much-needed victory over the Miami Marlins, 7-2.

It was Kendrick’s  third straight win and his fifth straight quality start.  Kyle now leads all Phils starters in both wins (3) and ERA (2.43).

But here comes the really surprising, in fact downright terrifying, stat of the week.  While the Phillies are 4-2 overall in games started by Kendrick. they are 5-13 this season in games started by Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay.

No, I didn’t get that stat backwards, they only have five wins in games pitched by the staff “aces.”

In other surprising news, Ryan Howard hit a home run…to left field.  That’s the way to beat the shift big guy.

But perhaps most surprising of all is that despite the team’s early season struggles, the Phillies only trail the division-leading Atlanta Braves by four and a half games.

So the good news for this Friday?   It could be a lot worse.

OK, OK, work with me here.  I’m doing the best that I can.
